Boaters get the oceanside of the long city of Nanaimo, and mountain people get the other side. A honeycomb of trails stretches from beyond Lantzville in the north to Nanaimo River, south of Nanaimo.
A lot of biking starts at trailheads along Dumont Rd southwest of Brannen Lake, adjacent to Nanaimo's north end. People also start under the powerlines at Extension Ridge (The Abyss) or Nanaimo Lakes Road, or at Westwood Lake or Morrell Sanctuary.
